Big the Small
Translation by Tree Buffalo
Act without acting.
Practice without practicing.
Taste without tasting.
Make big the small and many the few.
Return hatred with kindness.
Plan for the difficult while it is easy.
Take care of the big while it is small.
Difficult affairs of the world surely arise from easiness.
Big affairs surely arise from small.
This is how the wise person, to the end, does not act great and can thereby accomplish the great.
This is why frivolous promises surely lack sincerity.
And what is easy surely results in many difficulties.
Therefore, the wise person accepts difficult things.
Because in the end, they are not difficult at all.
