Three Lessons
Translation by Tree Buffalo
Give up holiness and relinquish wisdom, and the people will benefit one hundred times.
Give up benevolence and relinquish morality, and the people will return to devotion and compassion.
Give up skill and relinquish profit, and thieves and robbers will not appear.
These three lessons however, act as decoration and are not enough.
They must include these caveats:
Look for simplicity to hold on to your original nature;
reduce self-interest to lesson your desire;
and give up knowledge to have no anxiety.
